Overview
About ITAM
ITAM is a private, secular, non profit Mexican institution of higher education. Its mission is to contribute to the comprehensive education of students and to the development of a freer, more just and more prosperous society. In order to carry out its teaching and research objectives, ITAM aspires to the highest levels of academic excellence, while supporting a diversity of ideas and a community that respects ethnic, cultural, and religious differences.
Mission
ITAM's main purpose is to contribute to its students' comprehensive education and to the development of a freer, more just and more prosperous society. It also aims to become a community in its fullest sense, an institution of academic freedom and excellence, and a high quality autonomous center.
Objectives
Our goal is to educate men and women on the basis of rationality, responsibility, and assertiveness: opinion leaders and supporters of institutions. These graduates should be able to provide new knowledge (scientific, technological, professional), thus helping others to become aware of their country's problems and solutions. ITAM's activities are oriented towards these objectives and by doing so it reinforces its main functions as a university: teaching, research, and professional development.
Three Basic Principles
ITAM considers three basic principles as standards for its activities:
- Autonomy: namely, self-governance on internal regulatory issues: academic, legal, administrative, and financial.
- Academic freedom.
- Communality: by which all its members collaborate in the pursuit of their common objectives and the improvement of the institution.
Educational Philosophy
ITAM sees human beings as individuals freely committed to social progress and naturally oriented to the search for truth and righteousness. Consequently, education must tend to improve the lives of human beings by strengthening their values, developing their moral consciousness, and stimulating their capacity for service. At the same time, ITAM recognizes its obligation to its community's development, and its obligation to Mexican values and traditions.
