International Court of Justice

Case: Sovereignty over Pedra Branca / Pulau Batu Puteh, Middle Rocks and South Ledge (Malaysia v. Singapore).

This is an exceptional year for ITAMMUN and Mexico in terms of international law. After 33 years, Dr. Bernardo Sepúlveda Amor, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, happens to be elected as a Permanent Justice of the ICJ. Being a member of the ICJ involves an enormous responsibility, as there is no other judicial organ in the world which has the same capacity for dealing with the problems of the international community. Hence, the evolution of international law is continually expanded by justices in interpreting and applying law when disputes arise between States.

The Presidency of the International Court of Justice welcomes you, and hopes that your legal knowledge and persuasive skills be essential in resolving the cases that require full attention. The final decisions might place a new precedent toward the strengthening of the international legal order as a pacific settlement for international disputes.
