Magdalena Carral, ITAM alumna, receives the Luz Lajous award

Congratulations to Magdalena Carral Cuevas, alumna of the Economics Undergraduate Program at ITAM, for receiving the Luz Lajous Award, granted by the International Women’s Forum (IWF). This acknowledgement is a tribute to her trajectory and commitment, standing out as an example and inspiration for women, by paving the way for greater equality. 

The award ceremony was held in the University of the Cloister of Sor Juana, where the professor Carmen Lopez-Portillo Romano, president of the IWF Mexico’s Chapter, and the former senator Luz Lajous, who gives name to the award, where the people in charge of giving the award to Magdalena Carral. In her presentation, Carmen Lopez-Portillo highlighted Magadela’s virtues, mentioning her righteousness, consistency, commitment, generosity and solidarity.

“It is a source of pride today to make community and recognize that Magdalena has fulfilled and continues to fulfill her mission, being an example and inspiration for all of us,” she said.

Magdalena Carral has had an exceptional career in both the public and private spheres. She has been Commissioner of the National Institute of Migration (INM), Chair of the Mexico Tourism Board, and member of El Universal newspaper council, as well of the Woodrow Wilson Center Mexico Institute Advisory Board and of the Mexican Council of International Affairs (COMEXI). She is also an Independent Advisor of Sura Insurances. Her career began as the Chair of the  International Information Department at the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (National Institute of Fine Arts) (INBA) when she was 20 years old, and it reflects her commitment with excellence and her capability to lead in different sectors. 

Thel International Women’s Forum, founded in 1974, is an international association of women leaders that promotes female leadership and defends equality all across the world.  In Mexico, 165 women leaders make up the Mexican chapter, with the mission of continuing to open gaps for future generations.
